As their category suggests – giant dog breeds are just that, enormous. Their size and weight tend to fluctuate depending on the breed, but they all have one striking thing in common: their sheer size and weight. From the famous goofy Great Dane with an approximate size from the shoulder of 71cm-86cm and a weight range of 64kg-79kg to the impressive English Mastiff standing 71cm-91cm at the shoulder and weighing in at a whopping 73kg-104kg.
Like with all breeds, if you are considering becoming the pet parent to a giant breed, researching the dog breed’s history is essential, as well as their characteristics. Many giant breeds tend to be super drooly dogs, while others will need serious attention to their coats. Their size also needs to be considered, and while some are super relaxed and almost lazy dogs, they will need room to move. Apartment living is not recommended just for their sheer size. It’s also vital that all giant dog breeds are exercised carefully during puppyhood to prevent injury to fast-growing joints. The diet also needs to be carefully monitored during this growth period.
Giant breeds are wonderful prominent companions, with many noted for their funny characteristics and antics. With such a colossal statue, they will make a significant mark on your heart and bring that wow factor to the off-leash park.
Your pet’s health is priceless. Don’t leave it up to chance.
