Pet insurance is a type of insurance policy designed to help pet owners cover the cost of veterinary expenses for their pets. Similar to health insurance for humans, pet insurance provides financial protection in the event that your pet becomes ill, injured, or requires medical treatment. This may encompass surgery, medications and routine care such as vaccinations, microchipping and desexing.
Following your pet’s treatment by a veterinarian, you settle the bill directly with your vet and subsequently submit a claim to your insurance provider. If the claim is approved, the insurance company will reimburse you for a portion of the incurred expenses. The amount reimbursed will depend on the type of policy you hold and any caps, limits and excess that are included in the insurance policy.
Pet insurance is one of the fastest growing forms of insurance in Australia and there’s a range of cat insurance and dog insurance plans available covering eligible vet expenses for the treatment of cat and dog illnesses and accidents. Depending on the chosen level of coverage, plans cover routine care* items such as vaccination, desexing and micro-chipping through to acute and chronic conditions such as arthritis, snake bites, car accidents, cancer and much more.
If you want to find out more about dog or cat insurance plans or our routine care* cover don’t hesitate to contact one of our friendly PIA Policy Experts who are always ready to help.
