Australians Say Great Pet Insurance Isn't Just About Price—It's About Being There When It Matters Most
Pet Insurance Australia named Canstar’s 2026 Most Satisfied Customers – Pet Insurance winner after Australians rank customer experience above all else.
When a pet is rushed to the vet, most owners aren’t thinking about premiums or policy documents, they’re hoping someone will help them through one of the worst days of their pet’s life.
That’s the powerful message behind Pet Insurance Australia’s latest national recognition, after being named Canstar’s 2026 Most Satisfied Customers – Pet Insurance winner.
Unlike awards judged by industry panels, Canstar’s Most Satisfied Customers Awards are based on independent consumer research, with 1,797 Australian pet insurance customers rating 13 leading pet insurance providers* across the factors that matter most to them. The awards recognise the brands delivering the strongest customer satisfaction based on the real drivers of customer experience.
For Pet Insurance Australia spokesperson Nadia Crighton, that’s what makes the recognition so significant.
“This award means so much because it hasn’t been decided in a boardroom or by a judging panel. It comes directly from the people who matter most, our customers.”
“When Australians trust us during some of the most emotional moments they’ll experience as pet owners, knowing they’ve walked away feeling supported is the greatest recognition we could receive.”
The research reflects a growing shift in consumer expectations.
While many Australians begin comparing insurers on price, satisfaction is ultimately driven by the experience customers have when they need help most. Canstar’s methodology identifies the key drivers of customer satisfaction using independent consumer research and statistical analysis rather than relying on a single overall score.
Crighton said the findings mirror what the Pet Insurance Australia team experiences every day.
“Nobody contacts their insurer because they’re having a great day,” she says. “They’re often sitting in a veterinary clinic after an accident, facing unexpected surgery or worrying about whether they can afford life-saving treatment for a beloved member of the family.”
“Those conversations aren’t just about insurance. They’re about compassion, reassurance and helping people navigate incredibly stressful moments.”
As veterinary medicine continues to advance across Australia, pets have access to more sophisticated, and often more expensive, diagnostic tools, specialist care and life-saving treatments than ever before.
While this has dramatically improved outcomes for pets, it has also increased the importance of having an insurer that provides genuine support throughout the claims journey.
“Anyone can sell a policy,” Crighton says. “But what truly matters is how you show up when your customer needs you the most.”
“We’re incredibly proud that Australians have recognised not just what we offer, but how we care for people throughout the entire experience as this is the core of Pet Insurance Australia. As pet industry experts, and pet lovers the customer experience is at the forefront of our business and the entire reason Pet Insurance Australia exists.”
Pet Insurance Australia believes the award is a reflection of every interaction its team has with pet owners, from answering questions before a policy begins to helping families through difficult claims.
“Every phone call represents someone who loves their pet. Every claim represents a family hoping for the best possible outcome,” Crighton says. “To know our customers believe we’ve made those moments easier is incredibly humbling, and we’d like to sincerely thank every Australian who took the time to share their experience.”
Crighton said the recognition reinforces the company’s ongoing commitment to putting customers first.
“Our focus has never simply been on insuring pets.”
“It’s about supporting the people who love them, giving them confidence when life takes an unexpected turn and continually finding ways to improve the experience for every customer who trusts us with their pet’s wellbeing.”
About the Canstar Most Satisfied Customers Awards
Canstar’s Most Satisfied Customers Awards are based on independent consumer research conducted through ISO-accredited research panels. For the 2026 Pet Insurance Award, 1,797 Australian pet insurance customers evaluated 13 pet insurance providers across the factors that most influence customer satisfaction. Rather than relying solely on an overall score, Canstar uses statistical regression analysis to determine which aspects of the customer experience have the greatest impact on satisfaction, creating an award based on what matters most to consumers.
