Nikki LevinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Absolutely incredible service to the absolute highest standard. Pay back is immediate, gap cover is accepted, and in general the nicest most caring humans. I could not support my precious dog without their support. Could not recommend highly enough. Jen WebsterTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My normally very healthy, happy 16th month old chihuahua suddenly became very ill and had to be rushed to the animal hospital. After lots of tests and an overnight stay plus a week of strong antibiotics, she is now back to her normal lovely self. PIA accepted all the claims and processed the payments whilst I was still at the hospital. I could not be happier with the service I received from PIA. Simone RichardsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Only need to pay the gap, prompt claims and high proportion of costs covered- wouldn’t be without - so grateful for PIA for our golden retriever- wouldn’t be without - highly recommend! Brad DeasTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have been insured with Pet Insurance Australia for our dog Ella for about 4 years now. The claiming process is extremely easy online and we usually receive our rebate within a day or so. Most recently we attended Sash Veterinary Hospital and they were able to process our claim for us so we only had to pay the gap payment. I would highly recommend Pet Insurance Australia. Personal GmailTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. PIA have become one of the best in their field. I highly recommend them, in fact many of my friends have signed up after my recommendation. Richard Taylor (artywah)Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our dog has had to undergo specialist cancer treatment and ongoing follow-up care. The PIA claims process has been easy to manage and has offered peace of mind for the cost of treatment Bianca BonnyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Originally bred in the Scottish Highlands back in the late 1600s, Cairn Terriers were working dogs used to hunt vermin among rocky cairns that mark a boundary or a grave (hence the name). They’re one of the oldest terrier breeds, with a proud heritage as independent, weatherproof little diggers who weren’t afraid to take on a badger!
Thanks to their loyalty, compact size, and cheeky personality, Cairns became beloved family dogs over time. And yes, if you think they look familiar, you’re probably thinking of Toto from The Wizard of Oz.
Our dog insurance plans offer coverage for up to 90%* of eligible vet bills, a 21-day cooling-off period, friendly customer service, and the added perk of 2 months free on any new pet insurance plans.
Despite their working roots, Cairn Terriers are joyful, affectionate and always ready for action. They’re full of personality and thrive in homes where they get plenty of attention and playtime.
These dogs are clever and alert and often think they’re bigger than they are, which makes for some entertaining (and occasionally mischievous) moments.
While hardy by nature, their genetic quirks mean many owners consider pet insurance for their Cairn Terrier early on to help manage potential vet costs. If you’ve got a Carin, chances are they’ve already stolen your heart. Now, it’s about protecting theirs.

This is a rare but serious condition where an abnormal connection forms between the airway and the oesophagus. Your dog may start coughing, regurgitating and be prone to respiratory infections. This often needs surgery to fix.
Cairn Terriers, especially as they age, are prone to developing cataracts. You’ll notice their eye lens will look a little cloudy, and their vision will be impaired. If caught early, surgery can restore their eyesight.
Another eye issue often seen in Cairns which is inherited from their parents. This condition affects the cornea’s clarity and can lead to vision issues. Ongoing vet care and management are needed.
Like many smaller breeds, Cairns can have hormonal imbalances and develop diabetes. This means your little companion needs a special diet and ongoing medication to manage the condition.
Cairn Terriers are prone to suffering from Atopic Dermatitis (skin allergies), which causes itchy, irritated skin caused by environmental allergens. This chronic condition may need lifelong treatment and regular vet visits.
With their brave hearts and scruffy good looks, Cairn Terriers bring big energy to any household. But as lovable as they are, they’re not immune to Cairn Terrier health issues. That’s why pet insurance for Cairn Terrier can help many Aussie families prepare for eligible veterinary costs.
