Our pets are beloved members of our family, which is why we want to provide them with the best healthcare possible. Unfortunately, veterinary bills can be expensive, which is why, in Australia, an astonishing 10% of veterinary treatment cases lead to pets being put to sleep every year. Fortunately, by purchasing insurance, your pets may be able to receive the treatments they need.
Given the statistic above, it’s easy to see why dog and cat insurance is one of the fastest growing forms of insurance in Australia, but we believe there are still far too many cats and dogs that remain uninsured. Michael from Sydney saved almost $5,000 on vet bills thanks to Pet Insurance Australia. Eight months ago Michael bought an eight week-old Bullmastiff called Floyd and immediately signed up for pet insurance. And it’s just as well he did! Since then Floyd has developed hip dysplasia, a pre-cursor to an arthritic hip, and cost Michael $4,808 in vet bills.
“I took out a policy when our cavalier was 10 weeks old. He was a normal healthy boy. Due to an accident when he was 3 we have had major surgery on both back legs 4 times. He is now 8 yrs old and is still leading a normal happy life. PIA has always been brilliant and I would highly recommend them. Yes, the premium goes up each year but as he gets older his needs will get more so that is the reality of having a fur baby. It has definitely been worth having.” – Dec 2019
“I have been using Pet Insurance Australia for both of my dogs for nearly 10 years. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. As a matter of fact, I have recommended them to a lot of people. So far they have been easy to deal with and all my eligible claims, from elbow dysplasia surgery to stereotactic radiotherapy, have been paid for no questions asked and now they got even better with GapOnly.” – Jan 2020

All claim reimbursements are subject to the policy terms and conditions, exclusions, limits and excess.
Yes. At Pet Insurance Australia we cover for hereditary and congenital conditions as long as there are no signs or symptoms of that condition prior to the commencement of your policy or within the applicable waiting period.
All of our claims are looked at on an individual basis, however, if a condition has shown signs or symptoms prior to the commencement date of coverage or within the applicable waiting periods, then it is excluded as a pre-existing condition. Clients may apply for a pre-existing condition review after the policy has been kept for 18 months from the original policy’s commencement date and a vet has certified and provided veterinary records that there have been no signs and symptoms or reoccurrence of that pre-existing condition to the date of review. Further information can be found in our Product Disclosure Statements under the “Pre-Existing condition review” section.
Yes. Once your pet is accepted and as long as you continue to renew your policy and pay your premiums with no break or gap in cover, your pet will be covered for eligible vet expenses for life (with cover subject to the applicable terms and conditions of the policy for each renewal period). You can apply for Pet Essentials cover as long as your pet is over 8 weeks of age and younger than 12 years. For Comprehensive and Major Medical cover, pets need to be over 8 weeks of age and younger than 9 years.
At Pet Insurance Australia we love rescue pets and also understand that obtaining their history can be very difficult. We only require the veterinary history of your pet from the time you took ownership. If you can provide us with proof of ownership may also be required, we will only request veterinary history from that date onwards. Your full veterinary history will be required for your initial claim and will be kept on record for future claims.
